AUDITIONS ARE NOW OPEN TO JOIN THE MUSA - MUSICA SAPIENZA ENSEMBLES
Want to combine your passion for music with university studies? At Sapienza, you can, because thanks to MuSa – Musica Sapienza, anyone who wants to join one of the four musical groups need only participate in the auditions!
MuSa welcomes students, teachers, and staff, and there is no need to have any particular musical qualifications because the only important thing is to be able to play an instrument or sing and want to be part of a community that has been promoting musical culture inside and outside the university for over ten years.
There are four MuSa groups:
MuSa Classica welcomes self-taught and conservatory-trained musicians of all levels and involves them in the preparation of classical, orchestral, and chamber music repertoire for events such as institutional events (inauguration of the academic year, honorary degrees), concerts for the Sapienza community (we will be working on Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, among other pieces), and full-fledged musical theater productions: in January, we will reprise Brundibar for Holocaust Remembrance Day, and in July, La Fiera di Senigallia, a musical comedy based on a libretto by Goldoni, for the numerous participants in the 16th International Congress for Eighteenth-Century Studies, to be held in the Aula Magna of Sapienza.
MuSa Jazz welcomes both those who are already familiar with jazz and possibly improvisation, and instrumentalists from different backgrounds (classical, rock, ethnic) who want to learn this language. The practice will take place in a large orchestra (big band) that already has commitments scheduled for 2023, including International Jazz Day.
MuSa Blues welcomes singers, musicians, and dancers from the pop, rock, black, funk, and Afro-sound genres to participate in the Nelson Mandela Day Concert in July 2023 and other events planned throughout the year, featuring rock, pop, and funk repertoires from the 1970s or inspired by that era.
EtnoMuSa focuses on traditional music and Italian and international social songs. Knowledge of music is not necessarily required, but the ability to play by ear and regular attendance at rehearsals are essential. All instruments are welcome, especially the tambourine (pizziche, tarantelle) and female voices.
