MAKE, LISTEN TO, AND EXPERIENCE MUSIC IN EUROPE'S LARGEST UNIVERSITY
MuSa stands for Musica Sapienza, a project launched in 2006 to promote solidarity and culture through music. It involves students, teachers, and technical and administrative staff from this university, who, thanks to MuSa, can combine their studies or work with their passion for music.
MuSa offers amateurs and professionals from the Sapienza community the opportunity to join various orchestral or choral groups through auditions held every year in the fall.
Here are all the MuSa groups you can choose to join:
- MuSa Classica (orchestra and chamber ensembles dedicated to the repertoire commonly referred to as ‘classical’)
- MuSa Jazz (big band and soloist ensembles with a repertoire typical of international jazz and original arrangements of Italian folk music and international pop)
- MuSa Blues (vocal and instrumental group dedicated mainly to African American, African, and Latin American repertoires, with particular attention to vocality and choral singing)
- EtnoMuSa (group of musicians and dancers with a repertoire typical of traditional Italian and Mediterranean music)
- MuSa Polyphonic Choir (sacred and secular polyphony, from the Renaissance to the present day, from classical to pop)
MuSa performs over 60 times a year; its main venues are the Aula Magna of the Rectorate and the Nuovo Teatro Ateneo, but MuSa also performs in prestigious venues throughout the region, thanks to partnerships with many other musical organizations in Rome and beyond. MuSa participates in institutional and celebratory events (including musical performances for the university community at Christmas, the inauguration of the academic year, Carnival, and farewells before the summer holidays) and can be requested to provide musical accompaniment for inaugural or convivial moments at conferences or other events organized by departments or entities outside Sapienza. In the latter cases, requests must be sent to musica.sapienza@uniroma1.it at least two months before the date of the event.
