MuSa Auditions 2024

MuSa Auditions 2024

Can you play, dance, or sing?

Join the music ensembles of Sapienza University!

MuSa Classica welcomes players and singers, both as soloists and as members of the classical orchestraand choir, both with an academic background (conservatoire and/or music schools) and individually-trained (private music lessons). Attendees are involved in the study of the classical repertoire, both in the orchestra and in chamber ensembles, from the Baroque to the XX Century, for performances during institutional events (ceremony for the new academic year, ad honorem degrees), for the Sapienza community, and for proper theater productions, from Kurt Weill to Rugantino. In 2023 the chamber music season "I Giovedì della MuSa" has been started, with the aim of giving the stage to the best MuSa players, in the prestigious and newly restored Nuovo Teatro Ateneo, provided with a Steinway piano. The most representative events take place in Aula Magna. Other venues, still very important, are the Sala Odeion and the Cappella Universitaria.

MuSa Blues welcomes new pop, rock, black, funky and afro-sound singersmusicians and dancers for live events and recordings. We foresee advanced groups (Sound Machine and Vocal Ensemble), as well as a Comfort Choir.

MuSa Jazz is organized into various ensembles coordinated by the conductor: the MuSa Jazz Orchestra, a real big band, and MuSa Jazz Combo, small and medium jazz ensembles. The rehearsals are held weekly from October to June. The ensembles of MuSa Jazz perform in various venues within the university and in prestigious locations around the city. All players can participate to the ensembles: all wind instruments, the rhythmic section, but also less usual instruments in the jazz tradition. A good musical reading is required, as well as some familiarity with the jazz language and, possibly, also some improvisation skill. For the selection, it is possible to present bases of tunes of your choice taken from the jazz repertoire: the files must be in .wav or .mp3 format. A short sight-reading and a short improvisation test (optional) on typical harmonic chord progressions of jazz (blues, standard, etc.) will be required.

EtnoMuSa is focused on the traditional folk music and on both Italian and international social songs. We do not require any musical knowledge; you just need to play by ear and to be constantly present in the rehearsals. We welcome all instruments (mostly, percussions – e.g., tambourine) and voices. We also welcome all ERASMUS students that want to share the folk music of their home countries, according to the orchestra’s projects. The group will practice both the Italian and the foreign repertoire, and it will take part to many festivals and meetings, both in Rome and around Italy.
